Congratulations to Ms Wendy Gearside and the Woodgate Bowls Club Inc. (Ladies) who were announced as recipients of Woodgate’s 2025 Australia Day Awards. The Ladies Bowls club were awarded Community Group of Year in recognition of their long-standing fundraising and commitment to support cancer research via the Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea events. The Club has run their Biggest Morning Tea annually for the past 24 years, raising in excess of $100,000 for cancer research. Anyone who has been to a Woodgate Biggest Morning Tea will know it certainly lives up to the name; $10,000 alone was raised in 2024. Ms Wendy Gearside was lauded as Woodgate’s Citizen of the Year for her dedication as a Queensland Ambulance Service First Responder. Wendy leads Woodgate’s volunteer First Responder team, providing vital emergency medical care to residents and visitors, and has been active member for 14 years. Wendy stepped up as group leader in 2017 and actively recruits, trains, fundraises and more to ensure Woodgate has a 24 hour emergency medical service on call. Congratulations to all and, on behalf of the Woodgate community, thank you for all you do.
